Important Notes for setting up a Pocket PC with IconSpeak

 

The IconSpeak Licence is enforced by the Client ID matching the Device name of the Pocket PC it is used on.

 

When Pocket PC’s are new they all have a device name of Pocket_PC. You need to change this to match the Licence Name that has been allocated or agreed. This should be done BEFORE you dock it to your PC, otherwise you will encounter synchronization difficulties with IconSpeak. If you have inadvertently docked it with your PC, please undock it, and from Activesync, take the File, Delete Mobile Device option.

 

For example, if the client name is Tom Jones, then the Client ID would most likely be TomJones and the Device name must also be this. Device Names must be a minimum of 5 characters and a maximum of 15 characters long and cannot have spaces or special characters. We only support A-Z 0-9.

 

To set the Device Name on the Pocket PC follow these instructions:

 

 

You may now Dock the Pocket PC and set up Synchronisation.  Your Pocket PC must dock under the given name NOT as Guest. If this happens, reset the Pocket PC and dock it again.

 

If the Pocket PC is only to be used for IconSpeak, then you need only enable File Synchronization. Disable all other options such as Calendar etc.

 

To create a configuration for this client in the IconSpeak Configuration Manager, select New and enter a Client ID that matches the Pocket PC’s Device Name, for example TomJones.

 

To enable the Licence, you need to tell the IconSpeak Configuration Manager the Client ID and the Licence Key that has been supplied. To do this select from the menu, Tools, Host PC, Register New Client and enter the Client ID and then the Licence Key. If that Clients configuration is open at the time, press the Save button.

 

A note on Synchronization

 

When you make changes to a configuration and the Pocket PC is docked, new images and sounds are copied across to the device immediately. When you press the save button, the Configuration control file is copied across.

 

Please allow time for Microsoft Activesync to copy the file(s).

 

The ActiveSync Tray Icon  will turn yellow whilst synchronization is in progress. Do not disconnect the device or restart IconSpeak to test the configuration until it has gone back to the stationary green Icon.
