Mobile Talker Version 2

Mobile Talker is designed to enable a non-verbal (aphasic) user to speak anything they may wish to say. The user can type a word, phrase or sentence and speak it using Text-to-Speech or they may select pre-defined words, phrases and sentences from a categorized list. Optionally, the user can enable Clipboard Speaker mode, whereby any text copied to the clipboard from any other program running on the Pocket PC will be spoken.

Trial Period Until a licence is purchased for Mobile Talker, you can run it 20 times for up to 1 hour each time. After this it will no longer work, even if you re-install it.

Main Tabs
Type + Speak TAB
    Type + Speak Tab Image
  Sentence Input Box Anything typed into this text box can be spoken by pressing the Speak Button. Clear the entry box with the Clear button
  Clear button Press to clear the Sentence Input Box.
  SIP button Press to display or Hide the Soft Input panel (SIP).
  Speak button Press to speak the text in the Sentence Input Box.
Phrases TAB
    Phrases Tab Image
  New or Edit Displays the Phrases Window. When a phases is NOT Selected, the button enables you to add a new Phrase. When a phrase is selected, press this button to edit it.
  Speak Press to repeat the last phase that was spoken.

 

Menus
File
  Exit  Closes the program
Create Wave File Creates a wave file in the Application folder each time a sentence is spoken. The same filename is reused. This option is only available for DECtalk. With BABIL/Infovox, a Text-to-Speech the file is always created.
Export Database Exports the current database of phrases to text files so they may be backed up or used on another installation. The files that are created are: Languages.sql, Categories.sql, Phrases.sql, and User_xx.tab where xx is the active language code (e.g. US or UK etc.)
Edit
   Undo Windows CE Undo feature (only applies to text fields)
Cut Windows CE Cut feature (only applies to text fields)
Copy Windows CE Copy feature (only applies to text fields)
Paste Windows CE Paste feature (only applies to text fields)
Paste DECtalk Command Brackets Inserts an empty pair of Square Brackets [] so that a DECtalk inline command can be more easily inserted into the text.
Delete Windows CE Delete feature (only applies to text fields)
Select All Windows CE Select All feature (only applies to text fields)
New Category Input box appears so that a new category can be added.
New Phrase Displays the Phrases Window. Select the category for the new Phrase, and enter the text. Then press the Save button.
Delete Category Deletes selected category
Delete Phrase Deletes selected phrase
Edit Phrase Enables editing of the selected phrase. You can change the category or the text of the phrase.
Options 
  Language Language Options window will appear. They vary according to Text-to-Speech engine.
Clipboard Speaker When enabled, the clipboard speaker will immediately speak any text copied to the clipboard from another Pocket PC program.
Pronunciation Pronunciation Options window will appear. This will only appear if DECtalk or Cepstral are the current Text-to-speech engines.
Speak Each Word When Typed When enabled, each word will be spoken immediately after it is typed and followed by a space of punctuation character.
Font Size
  8-16 You may select a font size of from 8 to 16 point. Menu font size will not be affected.
Help
  About Shows the licence and copyright window.
Help Loads this help.
Register Allows the user to register the program once a license has been purchased. You can register manually by inputting the registration code, or if the Pocket PC is connected to the internet (e.g. via the docking station), you can register online. When successfully registered, you will no longer see this menu option.

  Select Language Select the language and Text-to-speech engine you have purchased.
  Select Voice If available, you may choose one of the voices.
  Adjust Rate If available, you may adjust the rate (how fast the voice speaks).
  Adjust Pitch If available, you may adjust the pitch (how high or deep the voices sounds).
  Adjust Volume If available, you may adjust the volume (this is in addition to the Pocket PC's volume controls).
  Cancel button Quit this window without making any changes.
  Save button Saves the currently selected language settings.
New or Edit Phases
    New or Edit Phrases Image
  Select Category

Choose a category under which the phrase should be stored. To add new categories use the Edit menu.

  Phrase Text Input Box Input the text you wish to store.
  Cancel button Quit this window without making any changes.
  SIP button Press to display or Hide the Soft Input panel (SIP).
  Save button Saves the new phrase under the selected category.
Pronunciation
   
  Select or Enter New Word

The dropdown list will be populated with any existing pronunciation commands.

  New button Press to input a new word for which you can then define the pronunciation.
  Pronunciation Command Text Input Box Enter the pronunciation command. For DECTalk Voices, Commands MUST be enclosed in Square brackets [] and follow the rules specified in the DECtalk documentation which is available on our website at www.Bostock.com/DECtalk.pdf.
For CEPSTRAL Voices only enter the phonetic spelling of the word as described www.Bostock.com/Cepstral_Phonetic_Lexicon.htm e.g. Bostock would be b oa1 s t oa0 k
  Cancel button Quit this window without making any changes.
  SIP button Press to display or Hide the Soft Input panel (SIP).
  TEST button Press to try the command. If it is incorrect, the DECtalk engine will say so.
  Save button Saves the new pronunciation for this word.

 

Other Information
DECtalk User Dictionary If you are using DECtalk Text-to-speech engine, you can create a user dictionary of pronunciations by editing the file User_xx.tab where xx is the active language code (e.g. US or UK). This can only be done on the PC using the program windict_xx.exe which is available on request from our support email.
