Tip: The IconSpeak CD must be in your CD drive.
From the menu select Tools, Host PC, Install Libraries
Tip: If no libraries appear in the Install Window, then you may need to change the “Install Libraries from” path from D: to E: (or whatever drive letter your CD/DVD normally appears under).
Select at least one Icon Library and one Sound Library and click the Install Button. This will copy these libraries onto your computer and register them with IconSpeak.

Tip: If you want to create a configuration for a Desktop/Laptop or Tablet PC then choose the configuration “Default Adult for PC 48 Icons”.
Tip: The “Uses Text-To-Speech” checkbox should be ticked if you do not intend to use real recorded voices but instead intend to generate your sounds using a text-to-speech engine (there are some free ones on the CD or you can purchase better quality ones online from out website.)
Click the Copy Selection button to begin creating your new configuration.
When this has completed your configuration will be created and then displayed.

Tip: If errors occur it means that Icons or Sounds are referenced in the default configuration you chose, but do not exist in the libraries. In this event you may have to record your own sounds or look in another of the libraries using the search button.
If you have created a PC Configuration it will initially look like the squashed image below.

To correct this choose the menu option: Tools, Device, Target Device is:, Standard or Tablet PC.

The screen will then change to look like the image below.
Tip: You have to move the Icon Library and Sound Library windows if they are “overlaying” the enlarged IconSpeak Test Window.

You are now ready to enhance your configuration with changes appropriate to the user.
You should add Icons & Sounds relating to personal preferences, friends, local and favourite places, foods, health issues etc.
If Icons do not exist in the library you can create your own, download them from the internet or purchase another symbol library such as PCS from Mayer Johnson.
If Sounds do not exist then you can record your own within IconSpeak or using other Sound recording software or use the Text-to-Speech capabilities of IconSpeak to generate them.
For more information about using IconSpeak, then you can view all of the online documentation which is on the CD. From Windows Explorer right click the CD drive letter and select Help on Installing and using IconSpeak
